Scrapbooking

Because we were in needed of creative materials to begin our scrapbook,  yesterday I volunteered to go out to Micheal’s craft store and buy what we needed to make our scrapbook excellent.  Today, I met Dahlia and Mahjub and Dahlia’s house and we planned out the entire scrapbook and what would be included in it.  I also volunteered to finish the scrapbook at my house over the next few days, and make it look wonderful.  I also need to begin my philosopher essay as well as my reflection to the Make A Difference project.  Although this is my last entry in my journal, the project overall created a long lasting effect on me.  At the beginning of the project my journal entries seem to show a hesitant quality about what I would be doing.  In the end, work at QUEST has made me recognize how such a beneficant act can impact day to day life.

Presentation Day

After all of our hard work, today was finally the day where we would be able to share with other peers what our Make A Difference project truely was about.  Although it was a long and drawn out day in the LGI, I was amazed at all of the different volunteer works groups had decided on.  Our presentation seemed to go smoothly to me, although we were about five minutes over our time limit.  Reguardless of what Mahjub says, being a few minutes over does NOT determine your entire grade.  Mrs. Kapp also said she would take into account that we did have a larger group than others, therefore we had more technological components.  Overall, our presentation seemed well organized and stimulating.

Verifying and Finalizing

Mrs. Kapp was back today, and went over all the little aspects of our presentation that we had questions on.  She also allowed our group to meet and go down to Mrs. Tredway’s room once again to test our presenation.  When we got there, for some odd reason our slideshow was not working in the way that it had been yesterday.  The quality was terrible, and the slideshow itself seemed to be stalling.  Lucky for us, Mrs. Tredway decided to switch our presentation to a different laptop with different programs on it and this seemed to solve the problem.  After our encounter with Mrs. Treadway, we all met at my house and discussed who was saying what for presentation today.  I was assisgned to speak about our indtroduction slide in addition to our scrapbook page slide.  After meeting at my house I was reassured that our presentation would run smoothly.

Classwork

Like yesterday, Mrs. Kapp was absent from class again, but we were allowed more time to work on our project.  Once again we tested our powerpoint and slideshow on Mrs. Kapp’s computer and they seemed to be working just fine.  Our group also discussed getting together to finalize our project tomorrow since our presentation is on Thursday.  We also inquired about the scrapbook, and determined we would need to get together this weekend at Dahlia’s house to work on it.

Approaching the Finish

Today, Mrs. Kapp was not in class, but the substitute kindly allowd us to go and meet with Mrs. Treadway to finalize our technological tests with her.  When we went downstairs to her room, we drew up the PowerPoint, Slideshow, and website which all proved to be successes.  Later that day, Dahlia and I also decided to stay after school to help work on the philisophical quotation paragraph, which was needed to basically needed to explain our quote.  Unfortunatly, the library was closed for AP testing, but I called my mom and she said she could drive both Dahlia and I to Dahlia’s house to work for a bit.  The work on the quotation pargraph and finding a philosopher began but we still need to complete the task.  Dahlia and I also talked about getting together to practice what we would say when presenting, as well as when the group could get together to work on the scrapbook.  We plan on addressing the whole group tomorrow.

Third Time to QUEST

Today was my third visit in an effort to volunteer at QUEST, as well as my last for the project.  All of our group was able to go today and volunteer except for Dahlia, but it had worked out that she had already finished her hours last weekend.  My morning at QUEST once again started at 8 and once again I helped to groom the horses.  After grooming, the sessions started with the children in the indoor arena.  This week was a bit different from the past though,  for today was my first time actually leading the horse in these sessions.  Overall the experience was great, although it took a bit of time to get used to.  In addition to the leading, I helped sidewalk too and began to familarize names with faces.  Like the last time I had gone, I once again had to leave early at 11, but it was alright because I had completed as many hours as everyone else.  Laura, a QUEST coordinator, gave everyone in the group a paper signifying how many hours had been performed by them throughout the past weeks.  The QUEST experience proved to be fun and rewarding and I hope to go back and continue helping there in the future.

PowerPoint Preparation

Today in class, we started off by meeting with Mrs. Tredway to determine what our AV components would be.  Later, after everyone looked over there schedules, the most logical day for us to get together seemed to be today, on Wednesday.  When school was over, all of us, both the boys and the girls, met in the front lobby for my mom to pick us up.  Today, we planned on loading all the pictures on my computer, and although Dan forget his camera, we stopped off at his house for him to pick it up.  From here we drove to my house.  At my house we accomplished the powerpoint presentation and loaded all the pictures onto my computer.  We also discussed other specifics and such that we need to continue to work on.  Today seemed to be a sucess and our project seems to be coming together smoothly

Class Meeting

Today, we discussed some of the technological aspects with Mrs. Kapp within our group.  Because both the boys group and girls group are both presenting what QUEST is, we decided on making a combined power point, and possibly and combined slide show.  We also tried to figure out when all of us could meet together to work on the powerpoint.  The dates we are considering are Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

Going Back

Although the group decided on going back to QUEST on May 10th, I found out later that I had some plans that prevented me from staying the whole time, which is why I went back today.  Dahlia was nice enough to come as well, for she was unable to attend QUEST next week too.  The morning started again at 8 AM, and unlike last time, this time I had the oppurtunity to help groom the horses.  All I really had to do was brush the horses with a particular kind of comb to get all the dirt and such out of there coats.  As I was doing this, I began wondering where Dahlia was, because she had not shown up yet.  Turns out she had slept in by accident a bit (tisk tisk Dahlia!).  I was grateful that she had come anyway though, because I didn’t want to go alone.  After grooming the horses I was used to sidewalk with the children and at 11 AM I had to leave because of a prior arrangment.  My favorite memory about going today was learning how to groom the horses.  I seem to be gaining more insight about QUEST each week.

Class Meeting

Today in class, Mrs. Kapp gave us time to talk with our group.  We discussed how some of us may go back again this weekend as well as a particular spot when we should all get together.  The point in time when we will get together still needs to be determined, but I am almost positive we will meet at my house.  We need to determine when everyone can get together and if the boys will need to meet with us on the joint part of the presentation or not.
